Meet our Athletes: Mark Dugdale - # 325

Like a true iron warrior, IFBB pro Mark Dugdale is always looking to be but a shadow of his former self – both physically and spiritually. One day at a time he continues to push his faith and his hard-as-nails muscular frame to uncharted territory – each time leaving a footprint so distinct history cannot afford to put its pen down. Born on Christmas day in 1974, Mark’s quest to launch a career in professional bodybuilding was made a reality under the bright lights of the 2004 NPC USA Championships. Competing in the light heavyweight class, his already muscular physique was accented with crisp, clear lines and shredded detail, easily winning him the Overall title.

Bit by the iron bug early on, at the young age of 18 he entered and won the teen division of the 1993 Northwest Natural, sending him on a path of success that drew inspiration from the training styles of earlier guys like Mike Mentzer and Dorian Yates. Flash forward to 2009 and you find a man with a perfectly assembled frame stacked with full, round muscle bellies, justifiably making him a major threat for the title every time he steps on stage. Known for having paper-thin skin come contest day, he brings masses of granite-hard muscle so ripped to shreds every detail appears as if it were etched by the hands of a stone mason.

A story that began 12 years ago, Marks dedication to being a committed father and husband continues today with his wife Christina and their three daughters – Maddie (10), Lauren (8) and Julia (6). And if being a full-time husband, father and professional bodybuilder weren’t enough to keep him busy, Mark is also a successful business man. Outside of his bodybuilding goals and obligations he puts in a solid 40-plus hour work week at his company, Garden Fresh Foods.

Training out of Kirkland, WA’s Gold’s Gym, Mark’s physique exemplifies refinement and is a testament to the fact that there is more to bodybuilding these days than sheer size alone, rendering it perfect for the realm of the feverishly competitive 202-and-under class.

Mark’s inspiring success has led to appearances in numerous bodybuilding mags and DVD’s (his third personal DVD, Beyond DRIVEN is now available), as well as invitations to speak on Pro Bodybuilding Weekly Radio. With all mark has on his plate it doesn’t leave this humble man much free time left for extra hobbies. But what he does have left he reserves for Bible study, which he hosts on Saturday evenings in his family’s home every other weekend.

Look for Mark to dominate both the Pittsburgh and New York Pro shows this coming May 2009 as he vies for a spot on the Olympia stage in September!
